Since he first put on the Ghana shirt in 2010, Jordan Ayew has been under scrutiny from fans.
.
Black Stars coach Avram Grant says the constant critique of the France-based player is not healthy – and wants support for the young striker instead.
.
Jordan has been in the eye of critics ever since he was accused of being selfish at the last World Cup, especially in the crucial game against Germany when he went for glory on occasions when fans expected him to pass.
.
“People can speak about the mistakes they make but they need to respect the players and not to hang the players for their mistakes. Because these players are giving everything to the national team,” Avram began.
.
“You can’t stop people from talking. People spoke about Kwesi Appiah even before he started training and John Boye but now he is doing well so it’s normal for people to speak about the players,” Grant told the official website of the Ghana FA.
.
In the ongoing Afcon, the youngest son of Abedi Pele has not scored but has seen his stats increase for team contribution.
.
He added: “Jordan Ayew is a very good player and I’m sure he will give a lot to the national team in the future.”
.
The 22-year-old was benched for new boy Kwesi Appiah in the quarterfinal win over Guinea – in which Appiah scored – leading to speculation that the former Chelsea boss will once again not start the younger Ayew.
.
But with expectations about a start for prolific captain Asamoah Gyan very low, Jordan may yet get another chance to silence his critics.
.
Ghana need their best attacking performance when they face host nation Equatorial Guinea on Thursday in Malabo.
