Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti has hushed talk of a possible reunion with Gareth Bale, calling the rumours linking him to the German giants ‘a myth’.
Ancelotti prised the forward away from Tottenham on deadline day in the summer of 2013 to bring him to Real Madrid.
The Welshman was signed for a then-world record fee of £85million, a title which was usurped by Paul Pogba’s £89million switch to Manchester United last summer, and has formed a key part of Los Blancos’ attack since.
And the Italian, who took over at the Allianz Arena at the beginning of the season, iterated the links between Bale and Bayern were unsubstantiated.
‘Bale is a very good player, but these rumours are a myth,’ Ancelotti said.
‘Today we are focused on our game, we have no time to think about these myths.’
His stock was as high as ever at the beginning of the season. After a Champions League winning season with Madrid, coupled with carrying Wales through to the semi-finals of Euro 2016, Bale reminded everyone of how much of a precious commodity he was.
The 27-year-old has netted 67 times in 146 appearances since his move to the Spanish giants.
But the forward’s season has been hampered somewhat by an ankle injury he sustained against Sporting Lisbon in a Champions League clash in November.
There is also no shortage of options up top for Zinedine Zidane, with Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez chomping at the bit to sneak in ahead of Bale.
And such is the financial clout of some of Europe’s elite, these star players are never out of reach for teams like Bayern.
Yet it appears Ancelotti has quashed any talk of a big-money move for the British export to the Allianz Arena, for now.
