Dauda Aboki, the chairman of Bali Local Government Council in Taraba State, has responded to allegations regarding the delay in workers’ monthly remuneration, clarifying the situation during a press briefing in Jalingo, the state capital, on Thursday.
Aboki refuted claims that some staff had not received their salaries for over four months, dismissing the allegations as unfounded.
He explained that most of the workers in question are not officially recorded on the council’s payroll due to incomplete documentation.

According to Aboki, these employees were meant to replace their retired or deceased parents, but their documentation process had not been finalized, leading to delays in salary processing.
He attributed the delay to the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) leadership’s failure to ensure proper documentation of these workers.
Despite this, Aboki assured that his administration harbors no ill intentions toward the affected workers or NULGE.
He emphasized the importance of following due process to maintain accountability.
Aboki disclosed that the number of affected employees does not exceed 37 and pledged that once their documentation is completed, they will be included in the payroll and paid accordingly.
Earlier, Abdulmumuni Isa, the NULGE chairman, confirmed that the workers had not been paid since January 2024.
He warned that the delay in resolving the salary issue could significantly impact the council’s operations.
The affected workers, expressing their frustration, highlighted the chairman’s refusal to pay their salaries for four months, leading to hunger, starvation, and general hardship among them and their families.
