Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has refuted claims of internal divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Mohammed, who also serves as the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, insisted that there is no faction within the party.
The governor made the remarks following a visit by the party’s embattled acting national chairman, Umar Damagum, alongside other PDP leaders from the North East, to the Government House in Bauchi on Friday.
The visit came amid speculation surrounding Damagum’s alleged suspension.
Reports earlier indicated that Damagum, along with PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, had been suspended by a faction of the National Working Committee (NWC) over alleged disloyalty.
However, a Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a restraining order, preventing the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) from removing Damagum from his position as acting national chairman.
Justice Peter Lifu, in a ruling on Friday, directed that Damagum should remain in office until the party’s next national convention scheduled for December 2025.
Speaking after a closed-door meeting with PDP stakeholders, Governor Mohammed stressed that the party remains united and is committed to resolving its internal disputes amicably.
“We have extensively discussed the situation with the acting National Chairman, and we have agreed to collaborate with other party organs—such as the BoT, members of the Governors’ Forum, and the Senate and House caucuses—to address these issues.
The main outcome of this meeting is our commitment to strengthening internal collaboration,” Mohammed said.
He emphasized that moving forward, the party would not tolerate any gaps or divisions.
“We are not recognizing any faction. We are united as one body, and at the end of the day, we will resolve all these issues,” he added.
Mohammed assured party members that key stakeholders are actively engaged in finding lasting solutions to the challenges facing the PDP.
“The resolution of these issues is not mine alone. It involves the entire leadership—including the Governors’ Forum, the BoT, and other prominent party members.
We are in consultation with our colleagues across the country to determine the next steps,” the governor explained.
He expressed optimism that the ongoing reconciliation efforts would restore stability within the party.
“This has been a productive meeting, and I am confident that the party will overcome its challenges.
We are committed to doing everything necessary to restore PDP’s glory and secure victory in the 2027 elections,” Mohammed concluded.
