Even though its candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, was disqualified from running for governor of Bayelsa on November 11, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that it plans to go ahead with the campaign kickoff on October 14.
According to a previous report by InfoStride News, on Monday, Justice Donatus Okorowo of the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that Sylva was unable to run for governor.
Okorowo concluded that allowing Sylva to run again would be a violation of the 1999 Constitution as amended because Sylva had already been sworn in twice and had been governor of Bayelsa for five years.

But APC’s National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka declared in a statement that Sylva is still the party’s nominee.
Chief Timipre Sylva is and will continue to be our great party’s candidate for governor of Bayelsa in the upcoming election on November 11, 2023.
Our party and our candidate have asked their legal staff to file an appeal with the Federal High Court as soon as possible.
“We urge our teeming members, supporters, and residents of Bayelsa to remain calm and wait for the outcome of the appeal, and we remain confident that we shall prevail,” he stated.
Morka claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had turned to mercenary lawsuits because it had nothing to offer the voters of Bayelsa following its terrible performance in office.
He went on to say that the PDP had also engaged in shady tactics in an effort to divert attention and sow discord among the state’s residents.
