With the entire community having rejected all the lies he told them on Thursday during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign in the area, Timipre Sylva, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Bayelsa State, has told state governor Douye Diri to let the people of Nembe breathe.
According to a statement released by Sylva’s Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Julius Bokoru, the governor visited Nembe to campaign for his elusive reelection but could not point to any reasonable projects he executed in the area other than the nearly completed Unity Bridge before he assumed office.
Sylva, a native of Nembe herself, urged Diri to quit wasting his time and effort on the region, saying that no amount of coercion or desperation would help Diri win the upcoming election there.

He stated, “Nembe had been subjected to dehumanisation, rights abuses, neglect, and a theatre of war in pursuit of the governor’s selfish interest of winning election under Diri’s administration.
“Just last month, thanks to funding and inspiration from the existing residents of Creek Haven, the Inspector General’s SWOT team cleared Nembe of dangerous criminals, transforming Opu-Nembe into a dystopian environment.
The people of Nembe deserve more than to be used as a launching pad for Governor Diri’s numerous lies and, even worse, his violent games and excessive political ambitions.
