The leadership of the Bayelsa State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a statement condemning the action that was reportedly taken by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Timipre Sylva, regarding the hostage situation involving officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Twon-Brass, which is the headquarters of the Brass Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement that was released by the APC candidate’s publicity secretary, Ebiye Ogoli, the APC candidate stormed the INEC office in Brass Island on Sunday in an attempt to alter the result of the governorship election in the local government area.
It was stated that the election officers rejected his overtures, and as a result, Sylva’s goons took them hostage.
Berepelenyo George Sibo, a teenage supporter of the PDP, was shot dead in Twon-Brass by Sylva’s goons, according to the PDP, which claims that Sylva was responsible for the heinous deed that led to Sibo’s death.
The party voiced their regret over the fact that the young man’s life was cut short by despicable political thugs who were nourished and supported by those who did not place any emphasis on the sanctity of human life.
The party also expressed their sadness over the fact that the political thugs were responsible for the young man’s death.
The party expressed that it was not surprised by Sylva’s move because it was in line with the aggressive style of politics that he practices.
It encouraged the APC chieftain to ponder on this and the outcome of the election in order to restore his image, saying that the election should not be a matter of life or death for anyone running for office.
