Timipre Sylva, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor in Bayelsa State, claims that Senator Douye Diri, the state governor, has hired spies to track his every step.
Sylva, through his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Julius Bokoru, released a statement to the media on Sunday, in which he claimed that credible intelligence indicated that spies operating across the state, particularly at the Bayelsa International Cargo Airport, had been asked to document and report his movements in the state to some off-grid security architecture in Bayelsa.
The former governor said that the governor’s personal security adviser was behind the spying operations designed to infiltrate his convoy.

He pleaded for law enforcement and the public to take notice of Diri’s campaign of violence against him and the people of Bayelsa, with particular emphasis on the town of Opu-Nembe.
He claims that after failing in office, Diri has turned to desperation, violence, and underhanded techniques rather than embracing the policy of commissions and inauguration of projects to convince the voters.
From the statement: “Reliable information available to H.E. Chief Timipre Sylva, Governorship Candidate of the APC in Bayelsa State, suggests that Gov. Douye Diri has commissioned spies across the state, particularly at the Bayelsa International Cargo Airport, to document and report Chief Sylva’s movements in Bayelsa and environs to some off-grid security architecture in the State.”
A close security adviser to Governor Diri is leading this desperate, illicit security operation, and everyone knows that their ultimate goal is to infiltrate Chief Sylva’s convoy and risk his safety.
This message is intended to raise awareness of Gov. Diri’s campaign of violence against Sylva and the Bayelsa people, with a particular emphasis on Opu-Nembe, and to encourage security authorities across the country to take notice.
A sitting governor would not be wise to invest in an orgy of violence but rather to tout his or her record of accomplishments. It is more appropriate for Diri to commission projects than spies.
Sylva’s advance on Creek Haven is a liberating act, and the Bayesian people are solidly behind him. As the saying goes, “the soul of Bayelsa state will be rescued from the jaws of characters whose futile way of masking their inefficiency is violence,” and that transformation is coming soon and certain.
Chief Press Secretary for the governor, Daniel Alabrah, responded to the claim by saying that Diri is actually a well-known pacifist and a supporter of politics without animosity.
According to the statement, Diri has promised not to resort to violent means to ensure his re-election.
“It is on record that for the first time in the history of elections in Bayelsa State, there were no reported cases of bloodshed and killings during the February/March general election in the country.”
The governor’s calm demeanor, which has spread throughout state politics, is largely to blame for this. Therefore, Chief Sylva is making a fuss over nothing.
Based on his history, we have reason to suspect he is behind the governor’s alleged misdeeds.
Ignore the ravings of a man who is drowning and looking for something to grab onto, or who is attempting to find excuses for his failed governorship idea. The chieftains of his party, the Nembe/Brass people, and the people of Bayelsa as a whole have all rejected him.
