The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, has charged Nigerian students to be promoters of culture of integrity by being role models that the country will be proud of.
He gave the charge on Friday, July 25, 2025 at the University of Abuja Main Campus, while speaking on the topic “Anti-Corruption Efforts of the EFCC on Online Fraud Prevention: How Students Can be Agents of Financial Integrity” to mark this year’s Nigerian University Edutainment Festival.
The EFCC chairman who spoke through the Head, Enlightenment and Re-orientation Unit of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE 11, Aisha Muhammed, stated that through education and awareness creation, students can be better informed on the importance of financial integrity and the consequences of financial crimes.
“Student can promote a culture of integrity by adopting best practices, reporting suspicious activities and supporting anti-corruption initiatives. Students can serve as role models in their communities, influencing their peers and family members to uphold financial integrity,” he said.
He called for collaborative efforts between the EFCC and all stakeholders in the anti-corruption fight including students.
“The EFCC’s anti-corruption efforts require collaboration with various stakeholders, including students to achieve greater successes. Implementing proactive measures such as fraud risk assessment and online safety education, can help prevent financial crimes. Empowering students with knowledge and skills can enable them to become agents of financial integrity and to contribute to a corruption-free society,” he said.
Speaking further on financial integrity, the EFCC boss noted that integrating financial integrity and anti-corruption education in schools’ curriculum would empower students to support anti-corruption initiatives of the EFCC such as becoming members of the Zero Tolerance and Integrity Clubs.
“The Commission has introduced various initiatives to prevent corruption, including youths,’ schools and NYSC initiatives and faith-based programmes for Christians and Islamic faiths, which provide anti-corruption doctrines for clerics to inculcate into the faithful. Also are public-private partnership and inter-agency collaborations. The EFCC has also developed a fraud risk assessment framework for Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs to prevent fraud occurrences,” he said.
The Acting-Vice chancellor of University of Abuja, Professor Patricia Manko Lar, appreciated the efforts of all stakeholders and urged them to continue to contribute positively to the development of Nigeria.
