PHILADELPHIA, PA–(Marketwired – July 28, 2014) – As his latest venture in mobile technology, Philadelphia-based entrepreneur and Bentley Holdings chairman Cosmo DeNicola today announced the development of wearable business applications for Google Glass, designed to target key enterprise industries including healthcare and manufacturing.
Designed by award-winning software developers in DeNicola’s new ‘Innovation Lab’, the first glass-based app will provide businesses with practical, wearable intelligence to enhance inspection-based workflow and quality communication.
“We see Google Glass as a game changing device,” says DeNicola. “Mobile workers are demanding better tools, and this technology provides faster alternatives for standard data collection because it gives the ability to display and record information while keeping you hands-free to perform tasks.”
DeNicola has identified early development partners, which include a luxury automotive manufacturer, a packaging manufacturer, and a regional healthcare provider. “Pilot sites have been selected and partner clients have been enthusiastic to participate,” explains DeNicola.
The project comes just two months after DeNicola officially announced Ernst & Young’s acquisition of LogiStar Solutions (local provider of SAP Supply Chain Execution solutions). The company was acquired for an undisclosed amount; however, DeNicola will be investing the capital from the sale into the development of the applications.
The development will be lead by DeNicola and Bentley Holdings’ Chief Innovation Officer, Mark Handzlik. Together, DeNicola and Handzlik have developed an array of award-winning mobile applications, including ‘Mobile Sales’ and ‘Mobile Logistics’ for Amtech Software, a Bentley Holdings company that leads the market in development of ERP software and mobility systems for manufacturers.
Google Glass garnered immediate national attention when news first surfaced in 2012. The first units shipped in April 2013 to developers who signed up at the June 2012 Google I/O developers’ conference. DeNicola was one of a few lucky users to grab a pair a few months later as part of Google’s Explorer program. The company has aspirations to enter into a formal a partnership with Google through the ‘Glass at Work’ program, which focuses on enterprise app development, who announced the first 5 members last month. The application by Amtech was submitted earlier this week.
“Our goal is to be inventive, not innovative,” says DeNicola. “To innovate is to anticipate a need and create something to address that need. To invent is think about things you cannot see just yet. That’s how we stay ahead.”
Bentley Holdings is DeNicola’s diverse business portfolio, with investments in mobility, software, healthcare, professional sports and talent management.
