A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has condemned the occupation of the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja by security operatives, which prevented the scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) meetings on Monday.
Speaking to reporters after being blocked alongside other BoT members from accessing the secretariat, George described the action as unacceptable and a threat to Nigeria’s democracy.
“It’s strikingly annoying. This is our property. Was there any court order saying we cannot hold our meeting in our own office? Nigerians are watching,” George said.

He warned the Federal Government against actions that could trigger a national crisis, recalling the political unrest that engulfed the South West in the early 1960s.
“I was a young man in 1962 when it all started in the South West. We must avoid that madness. What is the essence of democracy if we cannot sit and talk? You surrounded our office with police because we want to meet? Do you want to turn this country into North Korea or Russia? Nigerians will not allow it,” he added.
George insisted that the meeting would still hold but did not disclose an alternative venue.
Security operatives had earlier barricaded the PDP secretariat, stopping party leaders from accessing the premises.
