Christian Pulisic has come out to say the disastrous 2nd half display by Borussia Dortmund plus his team’s inability to cope with crosses into their penalty box is the reason they lost scandalously to Tottenham Hotspurs.
BvB were the better team in the first half with 4 shots at the Tottenham goalkeeper while Spurs failed to trouble their own keeper in any way.
Pulisic said, “It’s really tough to say [what went wrong in the second half],” United States international Pulisic said. “Obviously we’re going to watch the film back.
“The only thing I can think of is we just didn’t come out with the same mentality. We didn’t come out with that lockdown mentality where [we think]: ‘We need to finish this game with zero goals against and then we have a good chance.’
“Unfortunately, we just weren’t locked in on their crosses and they were able to score off three crosses, and we’ve got to work on that.
“We’ve got to go out there and understand that we can’t give up goals like that, because there’s still a second leg — that it’s not going to be easy to play here and we’ve got to lock in and be able to defend crosses.”
“This team’s never going to give up, especially going home. We’re confident we can score three goals.
“It’s not going to be easy — I’m not going to stand here and say we’re going to win — but we’re going to go out there, we’re going to fight and we believe. That’s all we can do.”
