Nigeria and Israel have moved to strengthen bilateral cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), innovation and entrepreneurship, with both countries expressing a commitment to expanding knowledge-sharing initiatives aimed at boosting job creation, technological advancement and economic growth.

The renewed collaboration was highlighted at the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Bootcamp 2026 held in Abuja, where government representatives, innovators, startup founders, researchers and business leaders gathered to explore the role of artificial intelligence in shaping the future of enterprise development. The programme, organised by Innov8 Hub under the theme, “From Ideas to Impact: Building AI-Enabled Ventures for the Future,” focused on equipping participants with practical skills for building AI-driven businesses and solutions.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s growing innovation ecosystem through deeper collaboration in artificial intelligence. He said Israel had adopted an ambitious strategy to position itself among the world’s leading AI nations and was willing to share its expertise with Nigeria through existing and future partnerships.
According to the envoy, the partnership extends beyond current initiatives and represents the beginning of a broader strategic engagement focused on harnessing technology to address economic and social challenges. He noted that cooperation between the two countries would involve knowledge transfer, innovation support programmes and opportunities for entrepreneurs to leverage emerging technologies for business growth.
Freeman stressed that artificial intelligence should be viewed as a tool for empowerment rather than a threat to employment. While concerns persist globally about the impact of AI on traditional jobs, he argued that the technology has the potential to create new industries, generate employment opportunities and improve productivity across multiple sectors of the economy.
He further stated that increased adoption of AI would enable African innovators to develop solutions tailored to local realities while ensuring that African perspectives are represented in the rapidly evolving global technology landscape. According to him, greater participation by Nigerian innovators would help strengthen the continent’s voice in the development of future AI applications and systems.
The four-day bootcamp brought together young innovators from different sectors, exposing them to intensive training in innovation management, startup development and AI-enabled business models. Participants explored practical applications of artificial intelligence in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, education, sustainability, financial services and community development. Organisers said the programme was designed to help entrepreneurs transform innovative ideas into scalable ventures capable of solving real-world problems.
A lead facilitator from Israeli entrepreneurship development organisation Unistream, Dor Yaakov, praised the creativity and problem-solving abilities demonstrated by participants. He expressed confidence that many of the ideas generated during the programme could evolve into successful startups capable of addressing challenges not only within Africa but also in international markets.
According to Yaakov, the quality of solutions presented during the bootcamp reflects the growing maturity of Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem. He noted that entrepreneurs are increasingly focusing on practical, technology-driven solutions that respond to pressing developmental needs while creating opportunities for sustainable business growth.
The Managing Director of Innov8 Hub, Gregory Ibe Jr., described the programme as a unique intervention aimed at helping businesses deploy AI to increase productivity and create employment. He explained that the initiative was intentionally structured to demonstrate how technology can complement human effort rather than replace it.
According to him, the training focused on practical applications that would enable entrepreneurs to improve efficiency, expand market reach and strengthen business performance. He added that the programme sought to encourage participants to see AI as a strategic tool for growth, innovation and competitiveness in an increasingly digital economy.
The collaboration comes at a time when Nigeria is intensifying efforts to accelerate digital transformation and strengthen its position within the global technology ecosystem. Government agencies, private-sector organisations and development partners have increasingly prioritised investments in digital skills, innovation infrastructure and emerging technologies to support economic diversification and youth employment.
Analysts believe stronger cooperation with countries that have established technology ecosystems could help accelerate Nigeria’s AI ambitions by improving access to expertise, research networks and innovation opportunities. Such partnerships are also expected to enhance entrepreneurial capacity and strengthen the development of technology-driven solutions tailored to local challenges.
Stakeholders at the event emphasised that innovation-driven partnerships will play a critical role in preparing African economies for the future. They argued that collaboration between governments, educational institutions, technology organisations and entrepreneurs is essential for ensuring that emerging technologies deliver inclusive and sustainable benefits.
With both countries expressing a commitment to expanding engagement in artificial intelligence, innovation and entrepreneurship, observers say the partnership could open new opportunities for startups, researchers and technology professionals. As AI continues to reshape industries worldwide, the growing cooperation between Nigeria and Israel signals a shared determination to leverage technology as a catalyst for economic development, job creation and long-term prosperity.
