Nigeria international striker Brown Ideye has been named in the Barclays English Premier League team of the week for the first time after his sensational display on Wednesday night helped West Bromwich Albion record a 2-0 win over Swansea City at the Hawthorns.
.
Ideye scored one and provided the assist for the other as the Baggies won comfortably and he has now been rewarded with a place in the prestigious team of the week.
.
The 26-year-old was one of two WBA players named in the list (defender, Craig Dawson was the other).
.
Robert Green of Queens Park Rangers was selected as the best goalkeeper of match day 25 while the four defenders who made the cut are Dawson (WBA), Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal), Cheikhou Kouyate (West Ham United) and Marcos Rojo (Manchester United).
.
Four midfielders were selected; Samir Nasri (Manchester City), Leroy Fer (Queens Park Rangers), Nemanja Matic (Chelsea) and Mesut Ozil (Arsenal).
.
The two strikers selected are Ideye and fearsome Tottenham Hotspur forward, Harry Kane.
.
Ideye was rated 8.5 for his showing on Wednesday, even higher than Kane who was rated 8.2.
.
Only three other players in the list; Laurent Koscielny (8.7), Samir Nasri (8.8) and Leroy Fer (8.6) scored higher than Ideye.
.
Meanwhile, former Manchester United midfielder, Darren Fletcher has showered words of praise on Ideye describing the striker as “fantastic.”
.
Fletcher, who helped United win the Uefa Champions League title playing alongside stellar talent like Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez, Paul Scholes and Cristiano Ronaldo, also had words of adulation for Ideye’s strike partner Saido Berahino.
.
“They (Ideye and Berahino) were both fantastic (against the Swans). Their work rate, desire and quality was great.
.
“The second goal (Ideye provided a stunning assist which was swept home by Berahino) was a perfect strike partnership goal.
.
“You need to score goals in this league and that responsibility mainly comes down to the strikers, although you want goals from all over the pitch.
.
“If we can get the service into them I am sure they are going to take their chances.
.
“It is important for any team that their strikers are scoring goals,” the former Manchester United man, who captains the Baggies these days told the club’s official website, www.wba.co.uk.
.
Ideye has now scored four goals in all competitions for WBA this term.
