Lifting Thor’s hammer is no easy feat. Plenty of heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have tried it, and thus far, only the God of Thunder and, surprisingly, Groot have been up to the mythic challenge.
However, there’s a new hero rising in the MCU — perhaps you’ve seen her punching the lights out of evil old ladies on the bus in a recent trailer? Carol Danvers is stepping to the forefront to change the game.
Danvers is part-Kree, gifting her with super-strength that most of our earth-bound heroes just don’t possess. That’s why actress Brie Larson reckons she’s ready to give Mjolnir a go.
During a recent chat with Buzzfeed Brazil, she was asked directly if she thought Carol Danvers is “worthy” of lifting Mjolnir.
Smiling and nodding her head, Brie answered: “Definitely! Yeah!”
Perhaps we’ll get to see that happen when Captain Marvel theoretically gets to meet Thor in next year’s Avengers: Endgame, although there’s been some speculation that she might factor into the film a bit less than expected.
Elsewhere, Larson has also recently been clearing up some rampant speculation about her future with Marvel beyond Avengers: Endgame, clarifying that she is not locked into the traditional multi-picture deal like her Avengers predecessors.
Larson insisted reports that she’d signed a “seven-film, multi-franchise deal” with Marvel Studios were “not true”, although she did not specify how many more movies are left in her contract.
