Bayern Munich coach Carlo Ancelotti has leapt to the defence of his former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, calling him the “most complete” defender.
Ramos has come in for criticism from sections of the Spanish media after conceding his fourth penalty of the season in Spain’s 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw with Italy on Thursday.
The defender vowed to silence his critics after the game, and Ancelotti has since come out and backed his ex-Madrid player.
“Ramos? He only provides experience, quality, character and trophies… does that seem enough to you?” Ancelotti joked to Marca.
“You can’t argue about Sergio Ramos. He’s a very complete defender.
“Sergio Ramos has everything: [Fabio] Cannavaro was fantastic in the air, [Franco] Baresi commanded the defence and others for the character they gave the team.
“Sergio Ramos is the most complete, who ties together the best features.”
Ramos will hope to bounce back when Spain take on Albania in World Cup qualifying on Sunday.
