Chaos erupts at Delta Central APC leaders’ meeting, several reportedly injured

A leadership meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta Central Senatorial District ended in chaos on Saturday at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State, following a confrontation among party members.

Eyewitnesses said the meeting turned violent after disagreements among attendees reportedly escalated into physical altercations, with chairs and other objects allegedly thrown during the incident.

Several persons, mainly party members, were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Among those reportedly affected was a Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Government, who was seen in widely circulated videos leaving the venue during the disturbance.

Sources familiar with the meeting alleged that the confrontation stemmed from disagreements between factions within the party.

According to the sources, supporters of a Delta State commissioner, some founding members of the APC and individuals linked to a Senior Special Assistant to the governor, who reportedly joined the party last year, were involved in the dispute.

The sources further claimed that the founding members accused some of the newer members of sidelining them from party benefits, a development said to have fuelled the disagreement.

The meeting was reportedly brought to an abrupt end as party leaders hurriedly left the venue under the protection of their security aides, while some property was allegedly vandalised during the unrest.

The incident has sparked discussions over internal cohesion within the APC in Delta State and the conduct of political gatherings.

Observers have called for dialogue among party stakeholders and adherence to democratic principles to preserve public confidence in the political process.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Delta State Government, the Delta State chapter of the APC nor the Nigeria Police Force had issued an official statement on the incident.

Stakeholders have also called for a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the disruption and ensure that anyone found culpable is held accountable in accordance with the law.
