Mr. Chidi Chidebe has emerged as the new Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, following a congress held on Thursday at the Women Development Centre, Awka.
Chidebe, a former PDP Youth Leader in the state, secured 1,080 votes to defeat Amechi Onowu, who polled 960 votes in the tightly contested election.
In addition to Chidebe’s victory, Charles Anierobi was elected as the Deputy Chairman, while Mr. Ebele Onunkwo emerged as the party’s Secretary.
The Chairman of the Anambra PDP Congress Committee and Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ossai, urged the new leadership to focus on rebuilding and reconciling the party.
He emphasized the importance of uniting all members, including those who lost in the election, to strengthen the party ahead of future contests.
“Anambra is a key state for the PDP, and victory can only be achieved through unity. I urge the new leadership to collaborate with all members, including those who contested but did not win,” Ossai said.
He also expressed satisfaction with the successful conduct of the congress.
“Last week, when the congress was postponed, I assured members that the process would be free, fair, and transparent. I am glad that we have fulfilled that promise,” Ossai added.
