Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP) and a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has strongly dismissed recent rumours suggesting that former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, regrets joining the APC.
In a statement released to the media, Chief Eze described the reports as misleading fabrications designed to tarnish Amaechi’s reputation and sow discord within the party.
Over the weekend, social media platforms were flooded with claims that Amaechi had expressed regret over his decision to join the APC, with some sources quoting him as saying he was dissatisfied with the party’s direction.
Chief Eze, a close ally of Amaechi, vehemently denied these reports, asserting that they were the handiwork of detractors aiming to manipulate public opinion.
Chief Eze made it clear that Amaechi has never authorised anyone to speak on his behalf regarding his political affiliations or sentiments.
According to Eze, Amaechi remains committed to the APC and stands by the role he played in helping to build and strengthen the party into a formidable political force.
He emphasised that Amaechi harbours no regrets about his contributions to the APC, including his efforts in establishing the party as a viable alternative to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria.
Addressing the nature of political leadership in Nigeria, Eze pointed out that failures in governance are not necessarily tied to party affiliation but are often a result of broader systemic issues.
He argued that Amaechi, like many other Nigerians, is disheartened by the insensitivity of the ruling class towards the needs and aspirations of the average citizen, but this disillusionment does not equate to regret over his political choices.
“As a significant figure within Amaechi’s political circle, I find the claims made by certain individuals, particularly Ibeh, to be baseless and malicious,” Eze stated.
“Amaechi’s silence on recent party matters is a personal decision rooted in his self-convictions, not an indication of discontent with the APC. His quiet stance should not be misinterpreted as disillusionment or regret.”
Chief Eze went on to criticise those propagating false narratives, describing them as “political charlatans” who are determined to undermine Amaechi’s legacy.
He highlighted that Amaechi has always been a dedicated and strategic member of the APC, and his commitment to the party remains unwavering.
“Amaechi is a dedicated party man, a strategist, and a seasoned politician who would never resort to public outbursts that could harm the party’s image or its internal dynamics,” Eze asserted.
He further explained that Amaechi’s decision to remain silent in the face of ongoing political developments is a deliberate choice, not an admission of any regrets or doubts about his political journey.
Eze criticised those who are attempting to exploit Amaechi’s silence for their own political gain, warning that such tactics are destined to fail.
He urged these individuals to desist from spreading unfounded rumours and instead respect Amaechi’s decision to take a step back from active political commentary.
“I directly brought the false report to Amaechi’s attention, and he categorically refuted the claims, stating that he has never even met the so-called Ibeh, much less discussed his stance on APC with him,” Eze revealed.
“Amaechi’s exact words were, ‘I did not say that rubbish,’ which should put to rest any speculation about his loyalty to the APC.”
Chief Eze also acknowledged that many within the political sphere are unsettled by Amaechi’s extended silence, particularly in light of his influential role in the APC’s rise to power.
However, Eze cautioned that fabricating stories to pressure Amaechi into speaking out is futile.
He emphasised that Amaechi is currently enjoying a well-deserved respite from the political fray and that any attempts to provoke him with falsehoods are counterproductive.
“Amaechi has no regrets about joining the APC or his efforts in transforming Nigeria’s transportation sector during his tenure as Minister.
He takes pride in the achievements of the APC and in having supported President Buhari’s ascent to power,” Eze declared.
“Those attempting to sully Amaechi’s hard-earned reputation should cease their efforts and allow him the peace he deserves. When the time is right, Amaechi will address the nation in his own words and on his own terms.”
In conclusion, Chief Eze reiterated his call for the public and the media to disregard the false reports and recognise them for what they are: baseless attempts to stir controversy and discredit a loyal party member.
He reaffirmed that Amaechi’s silence does not signify regret but rather reflects a thoughtful pause amidst the ongoing political noise.
