In-form Kaizer Chiefs striker Kingston Nkhatha said the journey to the Namibian capital of Windhoek for a date with Black Africa should be a mere formality after the Soweto Glamour Boys won the first leg of the Orange CAF Champions preliminary round 3-0 at FNB Stadium last week.
The two teams meet again in the return leg on Saturday night with the first leg’s two-goal hero Nkhatha hoping to seal a passage into the first round proper.
The Namibians were totally outplayed in the first leg and never looked like scoring even a consolation goal but spurred on by the home crowd, nothing should be taken for granted.
“Playing at home always gives the home team some inspiration but I honestly think no miracle will save the Namibians,” said Nkhatha who was on target again during Chiefs’ 2-2 draw against Maritzburg United in the mid-week league fixture.
The technical gap between the Namibian part-timers and mega-rich Chiefs side was very apparent in the first leg and had Chiefs utilised all their chances, the scoreline could easily have reflected a rugby match.
“We should win very easily on Saturday,” said a confident Nkhatha.
Another South Africa’s African representatives, Supersport United who are campaigning in the African Confederations Cup left early for neighbouring Botswana on Thursday evening for the second leg encounter against Gaborone United. The return leg will be played at the National Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Pretoria side were 2-0 comfortable winners in the first leg but left the capital early to acclimatise to Botswana’s notorious hot weather.
“We cannot afford to take anything for granted. We have decided to leave early because soccer on the continent is just something else,” said Supersport United coach, Cavin Johnson whose side beat Black Aces 2-0 to climb third on the Absa Premiership league log.
Johnson said if Supersport stick to their plans and avoid being overawed by the occasion, should easily negotiate their way into the next passage.
