A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Kaduna State, Adamu Bature, has noted that something urgently must be done in the country to awaken the political consciousness of Nigerians in coming out to vote during elections.
Speaking to newsmen in Kaduna on Saturday over the low turn out experienced in most polling units during the chairmanship and councillorship poll in Chikun Local Government Area, the PDP chieftain lamented that the development has shown that Nigerians were no longer interested in the democratic process of electing elective officers to positions in the country.
InfoStride News went round in most of the polling units in Chikun and discovered that there was serious low turn out of electorate.
Bature emphasized the need for elective officers to be more caring, responsive and responsible to the electorate for the dividends of democracy to be physically seen by Nigerians.
He added, “It is true that Nigerians are suffering in the hands of those they elected. Insecurity and other problems have become the order of day in the country and all these challenges have frustrated people to spare their time to go and cast their votes on election day.”
