Christian Atsu says the Black Stars have put the loss to Senegal behind them.
.
In their 2015 Afcon group opener Ghana gave off an impressive first-half display only to subsequently lose the game 2-1 to Senegal through a very late Moussa Sow goal.
.
The Chelsea attacker has been fingered for missing two crucial opportunities which could have changed the face of the game in the first half, but he says his intention was to score.
.
“Nobody goes into a game to miss a chance. My intention was to score and make Ghanaians happy but it didn’t happen. We could have been two up if I had scored but that is behind us. We were really disappointed at the loss [to Senegal] but that is behind us now.”
.
“We will need a winning mentality and a lot of concentration on the pitch. We lost the last game at the last minute. When you concede and lose at such a time, it means a loss of concentration.”
.
“With the unity in camp, we believe we will come back strong in the next game. We had a meeting after the game and all the players knew what happened. We believe the tournament is on and we still have the chance to advance. Everything depends on us and we are really determined to make Ghana proud,” Atsu told supersport.com.
.
As Ghana prepare to face Algeria in Mongomo on Friday, the 23-year-old speaks of his observation of the Fennecs:
.
“The team is now focusing on the Algeria match. Algeria has a very good team. I watched them beat South Africa in a very good game. We are also preparing very well for them. It will be a difficult game for Ghana and also for them. For us, we have no option than to win,” Atsu said.
.
Ghana must avoid slip-ups in their next group games against Algeria and South Africa to stand the chance of being among the eight teams to advance for the quarterfinals of the 2015 Afcon.
