Luis Suarez has labelled his El Clasico winner as “the most important goal” of his Barcelona career.
.
The former Liverpool star trapped a long punt from Dani Alves and fired past Iker Casillas in the 55th minute to put Barca 2-1 up against Real Madrid at the Nou Camp.
.
And it was enough for the Catalan giants to extend their lead at the top of La Liga to four points over their great rivals from the Spanish capital.
.
It was Suarez’s 14th goal in all competitions for Barcelona since making a £75million switch from Anfield last summer.
.
And the 28-year-old striker, who scored twice in the Champions League against Manchester City last month, said: “This is the most important goal I’ve scored for Barca.
.
“It has an extra significance because of the rival we were playing against.
.
“I just tried to take advantage of the space between defenders and be as fast as I could so I didn’t give the centre-backs any time to recover. Luckily it went in.
.
“The dressing room is very happy, we knew this was a really important game if we wanted to stay top of the league and increase our advantage.”
