The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) has threatened to boycott the upcoming local government election scheduled for October 19, 2024, in Kogi State.
The Kogi State Chairman of CNPP, Comrade Mohammed Kabir Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, citing a lack of confidence in the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC).
Abdullahi accused KOSIEC of sidelining key stakeholders in the preparation for the council polls, raising concerns about the transparency of the electoral process.

“It is totally unacceptable for KOSIEC to organize training sessions ahead of the election without involving any political party,” he said.
“To this moment, we have not been informed of the election modalities.”
The CNPP Chairman further alleged that the commission’s conduct suggested favoritism.
“They are making it seem as though participation in Kogi’s elections is only possible for those aligned with their cabal or secret cult,” he stated.
Abdullahi lamented the lack of neutrality from KOSIEC, warning that aligning with the All Progressives Congress (APC) would undermine democracy.
“KOSIEC is supposed to be impartial, but what we are witnessing is quite the opposite,” he said.
“It would be a betrayal of democracy if the electoral body serves as a tool for APC’s agenda.”
He decried the situation, stating, “Nigeria is not a banana republic, and Kogi State cannot operate like a parallel nation.
If we, as stakeholders, remain silent, we risk denying future generations meaningful grassroots representation.”
The CNPP warned that unless reforms were implemented, the party might withdraw from the election.
“It is under these circumstances that we inform the world: CNPP may boycott the council polls, as we have lost confidence in the integrity of the electoral process,” Abdullahi concluded.
