Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi State, has expressed his approval of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal’s decision to uphold the election of Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima.
While fielding questions from reporters on Thursday, Bello expressed his satisfaction with the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) victory at the tribunal on Wednesday and urged the losing parties to use their resources for more productive purposes rather than appealing the ruling.
Kogi’s governor said, “As far as I’m concerned, I don’t think there is any ground for appeal” after leaving Vice President Kashim Shettima’s office in the Presidential Villa. Instead, I’ll urge them to forego appealing the decision to a higher court in order to spare everyone involved time, energy, and money. I’ll also urge their fans to encourage them to do so.
He said, “I urge all those that feel upset that we only have one country. All of them need to get together in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu so that we can get our country back on track. The problems we’re having now are a direct result of things that happened in the past.
Certainly, we have Mr. Fix It, who is doing his best to fix Nigeria by going all over the world. We’re relieved that this issue has been resolved.
Governor Bello continued, “We appreciate all that occurred. We now know the whole truth. Think about the justices sitting for yesterday’s historic 14-hour ruling. I believe it is time for Nigerians both at home and abroad to settle down and confront the challenges of good administration.
After the tribunal in Kogi State overturned the election of two senators from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and awarded victory to a candidate from the opposition PDP, Governor Bello joked, “I want to assure you that even judging from the pronouncements of yesterday at the court, we are going to have our 3/3 Senate in Kogi State, I can assure you.”
“We have a democracy right here. They can file an appeal if they wish to. I have faith that they will do what has to be done to prevent any sort of bloodshed. We will abide by the law and its due process, no matter what the verdict may be.
The Kogi State Election Tribunal announced on March 1 that Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had won the election for the Kogi Central senatorial district held on February 25.
The three-judge Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal, led by K. A. Orjiako, declared her the winner after they overturned the election of All Progress Congress (APC) candidate Abubakar Sadiku Ohere.
On the grounds that elections were nullified in 94 polling units, the tribunal sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State, removed Jibrin Isah (APC, Kogi East) as chairman of the Senate committee on customs, excise, and tariffs.
The panel decided to hold a new election in those 94 precincts and issued an order to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
