Court Orders INEC to Adopt NDC’s Modified Logo

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise, upload and use the modified digital logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The judgment was delivered by Justice J.O. Abdulmalik following a suit filed by the NDC to compel INEC to recognise the modified logo contained in the party’s constitution rather than the association logo with which it was initially registered.

Former Bayelsa State governor and NDC national leader, Seriake Dickson, disclosed this in a statement.

Dickson said the party’s first National Executive Council (NEC) meeting approved the modified logo on March 25, 2026, and forwarded it to INEC.

According to him, the commission initially uploaded the modified logo but later removed it without communicating any reason to the party, reverting to the old association logo.

He said the NDC gave INEC sufficient time to resolve the matter administratively before approaching the court for legal redress.

Dickson welcomed the judgment, describing it as a vindication of the party’s position and an affirmation of the need for due process.

He explained that both the old and modified logos feature the two-finger victory sign, but maintained that the modified version is the authentic logo provided for in the party’s constitution and the one more widely recognised.

The NDC leader subsequently directed all candidates and members of the party to immediately adopt the approved modified logo on campaign materials, including banners, posters and other publicity materials.

He acknowledged that some candidates and members might have already produced campaign materials bearing the previous logo and expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the change.

The court order is expected to settle the immediate dispute over the NDC’s official symbol ahead of the 2027 general elections, as political parties intensify preparations and campaign activities gather momentum.
