Special Assistant on Public Communication for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar Phrank Shaibu has accused President Bola Tinubu of trying to prevent the release of information about an alleged criminal investigation into him by American authorities.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, he leveled the charge.
Earlier this week, attorneys for Bola A. Tinubu in the United States filed motions to appear in a freedom of information action filed against the FBI and the CIA, where documents related to Tinubu’s true identity and decades-long endeavors are housed.

On October 18, 2023, one of the attorneys who is representing Tinubu in the FOIA action taking place in Washington, DC, Christopher Carmichael, filed a motion indicating that he was a lawyer in good standing to appear in the court because he represented Tinubu in the recent Chicago State University (CSU) records dispute.
Nonetheless, Atiku’s advisor responded that Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to conceal elements of his past were unbecoming of a leader ruling over 200 million people.
To paraphrase what he actually stated, “I think it is time for all Nigerians to express significant worry about this individual named Bola A. Tinubu, if at all that is his genuine name.
Former Lagos State Chief of Staff Rafiu Tinubu and other members of his family have denied knowing him. Some of the places he applied to rejected him, so he’s staying mum about where he went to elementary and senior school and whether or not his father is alive.
He was being investigated for drug trafficking, but he refused to divulge any information about a settlement he had reached with American officials. Now, an effort is on to reveal the investigation’s exact details, but he’s actively working to prevent it.
During the campaign, he and his surrogates, headed by Mr. Festus Keyamo, claimed that the 1992 drug inquiry was actually about taxes. Then why is he so reluctant to allow the FBI to make the records public, if that is indeed the case?
Since most Nigerian courts have blocked all attempts to unveil Bola A. Tinubu, Atiku’s adviser urged US officials to regard themselves as the final chance of Nigerians.
He continued, “Tinubu has been successful in fooling Nigerians because of his ability to conceal his history.” Unfortunately, the courts in Nigeria have thwarted every effort by well-intentioned citizens to expose him. State officials in Lagos State, which he has dominated for decades, have consistently ignored FOI requests.
Nigerians are putting their faith in the United States government to take the necessary steps to ensure that they, at the very least, have access to accurate information about the leader of their country. We implore the American government not to give in to pressure and halt the release of the documents.
‘Onijumu Wura: The Tinubu Dynasty of Kakawa’, Shaibu said, was written by Rafiu Tinubu in 2007 to expose him as the former Lagos State Head of Service.
“Unfortunately, all the copies were miraculously swept up soon after the debut of that book. No one has been able to track down a copy of the book as of yet.
People in Nigeria have a right to know about the president’s record. Unfortunately, every time a chance for Nigerians to get a good look at him presents itself, Tinubu tries to stymie the exposure.
We all remember how President Tinubu warned that the public release of his Chicago State University transcripts would do him irreparable harm.
After the FBI decided to reveal information about his background while he was in the United States, Bola A. Tinubu once again began playing stalling games.
“Bola A. Tinubu must act like a statesman and be decent enough to know that each time he comes around to frustrate a discovery about him, he embarrasses a country of over 200 million people,” he stated.
