The Sustainable Agro and Hunger Eradication Foundation (SAHE Foundation), in partnership with the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), is set to launch the Tech Young Farmers Club (TYFC) as part of the 2024 Children’s Day celebrations.
The event will take place on May 24, 2024, at the Jelili Adebisi Omotola Hall A, University of Lagos, under the theme ‘Becoming a Technology-Driven Farmer’.
The TYFC initiative aims to mentor and empower young individuals, specifically those aged 12–16 (SS1–3 classes), who are considered the next generation of farmers. The program will equip them with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to become leaders in sustainable agricultural practices.

The launch event will feature lectures, training sessions on modern agricultural techniques, and a keynote address by Francis Toromade, the Director-General of the Premier Agribusiness Academy.
Dr. Olaoye Abiola, Chairman of the Learners Activities Committee of NAPPS in Lagos, emphasized that the TYFC would introduce modern farming techniques and technologies to students. Participants will receive polished seeds to grow in customised sacks at their schools, where their progress will be monitored and maintained.
Abiola highlighted the significance of this initiative in shaping young minds to see agriculture as a means of eradicating hunger and creating sustainable livelihoods. He pointed out that Africa’s agricultural business is projected to reach $1 trillion by 2030, and that the next generation of millionaires and billionaires in Africa could emerge from agriculture.
Idongesit Mbaram, founder of the SAHE Foundation, expressed concern over the lack of interest among young people in exploring opportunities in agriculture. She explained that SAHE Foundation is dedicated to promoting sustainable agriculture and alleviating hunger through innovative solutions, community empowerment, and advocacy for food security and environmental stewardship.
The launch of the Tech Young Farmers Club represents a critical step towards preparing Nigerian youth to embrace agriculture as a tool for prosperity. By leveraging modern agricultural technologies and practices, the initiative aims to inspire a new generation of farmers who are well-equipped to contribute to Nigeria’s agricultural growth and development.
This initiative not only aligns with the broader goals of sustainable development but also underscores the importance of integrating technology into agriculture to ensure food security and environmental sustainability for future generations.
