In a resounding declaration of its commitment to community well-being and socio-economic advancement, Dangote Cement Plc’s Ibeshe Plant in Ogun State affirms its dedication to intentional empowerment programs. The pledge was reiterated by Mr. Azad Nawabuddin, the Plant Manager, during the annual 2023 Community Day Celebration, held within the company’s premises to strengthen ties with its 17 host communities.
During the celebration, Nawabuddin unveiled an array of empowerment initiatives benefiting 269 members from the 17 host communities. The generosity extended to a diverse range of sectors, showcasing Dangote Cement’s holistic approach to community development.
A significant highlight of the event was the allocation of N10.6 million in scholarships to 119 deserving but financially challenged students enrolled in tertiary institutions. This initiative aims to support education and create pathways for the intellectual development of the youth within the host communities.

Recognizing the pivotal role women play in the community, Dangote Cement presented chest freezers to 50 women, enhancing their capacity for trade and economic independence. This strategic empowerment aligns with the broader goal of fostering inclusive growth and gender equality.
Moreover, the company demonstrated its commitment to modernizing agriculture by providing weeding machines to 60 farmers who had undergone training in contemporary farming practices. This initiative not only empowers local farmers but also contributes to the overall enhancement of agricultural productivity in the region.
In a forward-looking move, Dangote Cement invested in the skill development of 30 youths from the host communities. These individuals were trained in shoe and bag leather works, with the program costing over N20 million. As part of the initiative, each participant will receive various tools to establish their workshops, fostering entrepreneurship and economic self-sufficiency.
Mr. Nawabuddin emphasized that Dangote Cement’s commitment to community well-being and development through intentional empowerment programs remains steadfast. The company sees these initiatives as integral to fulfilling its social contract with the host communities and complementing government efforts to improve living standards.
He highlighted the recent ‘Care for the Elderly’ program held in October, a groundbreaking initiative benefiting 50 elderly men and women from the host communities. This program reflects Dangote Cement’s commitment to addressing the diverse needs of the community, ensuring that no demographic is overlooked in the pursuit of holistic and sustainable development.
As Dangote Cement continues to set milestones in corporate social responsibility, the company’s empowerment initiatives stand as a testament to its dedication to fostering positive change and contributing to the holistic development of the communities it serves.
