Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel has come out to say that fans of the club didn’t want Liam Delap. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.
According to him, Chelsea fans clearly wanted Victor Osimhen leading the line next season, but now that the club has gone for Delap, supporters can only hope he succeeds.

Mikel added that the young striker made some good runs in CFC’s first Club World Cup match, so he might be the guy to take Chelsea to the next level.
“We need someone to come in, score goals and finish those chances. Obviously, he [Delap] isn’t the guy the fans wanted. We know who the fans wanted. The fans wanted Victor Osimhen to come to the club but he didn’t.
Obviously the club decided to go with Delap. He’s young, he’s gonna get better. Hopefully he hits the ground running and then he’s gonna quieten those doubters. I wish him well, I hope he succeeds at this club. I think he can. The runs I saw today, running behind defenders, I think he can be the guy to finish those chances.
But, Nic Jackson, let’s not forget, I still think he will be the main man. He just needs to work on his finishing. I still think he’s gonna be the guy to start the season.
During the season, if he’s not scoring then Delap gets his opportunity. Healthy competition is really important.”
WOW.
Chelsea Football Club is an English professional football club based in Fulham, West London. Founded in 1905, they play their home games at Stamford Bridge.
The club competes in the Premier League, the top division of English football. They won their first major honour, the League championship, in 1955. The club won the FA Cup for the first time in 1970, their first European honour, the Cup Winners’ Cup, in 1971, and became the third English club to win the Club World Cup in 2022.
On 7 May 2022, Chelsea confirmed that terms have been agreed for a new ownership group, led by Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjörg Wyss, to acquire the club. The group was later known as BlueCo.
The UK government approved the £4.25bn takeover, ending Abramovich’s 19-year ownership of the club. Bruce Buck, who served as chairman since 2003, was replaced by Boehly, while long-serving club director and de facto sporting director Marina Granovskaia left, as did Petr Čech from the role of technical and performance advisor.
