The Delta State Police Command has apprehended several suspected armed robbers, kidnappers, and cultists in a series of operations across the state.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, arrested some notorious kidnappers who had been terrorizing Abraka, Obiaruku, and Umutu areas on January 30, 2025.
Further investigations led to the arrest of the gang leader, identified as Emeka (surname unknown), at Evwokenren Layout, off Ughelli Road, Agbarho, in Ughelli North Local Government Area on February 2, 2025.
“During the raid, officers recovered a fabricated semi-automatic Beretta pistol with four rounds of live ammunition, four locally made cut-to-size guns, thirteen rounds of live cartridges, and a pair of military uniforms concealed in a black polythene bag,” Edafe stated.
Highway Patrol Arrests Armed Suspects
In another operation, on February 19, 2025, at approximately 4 p.m., operatives of Safer 025 from the Safer Highway Patrol intercepted three suspects during a stop-and-search operation along the Benin-Agbor Road.
The suspects, identified as Buhari Bala (28), Habibu Sale (25), Abdulwahab Musa (20), and Taisu Bala (20), were found in possession of three locally made long guns and charms.
“The suspects claimed they were traveling from Zaria, Kaduna State, to a bush near Benin, known as Igbogri Community, for a hunting expedition,” Edafe disclosed.
Illegal Firearms Recovered in Agbarho
Meanwhile, acting on a tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho Division, CSP Pius Eredei, led an operation on January 17, 2025, that resulted in the arrest of a suspect, Eriga Enyuche (40).
“A search of his one-room apartment led to the discovery of a G-3 rifle and a pump-action gun hidden in the ceiling,” Edafe confirmed.
The Delta State Police Command has assured residents that efforts are ongoing to rid the state of criminal activities and ensure the safety of all citizens.
