The Delta State Police Command has declared the Owelle of Onicha-Olona, Chief Jerry Nkeeshe, and members of an armed group wanted over a deadly attack that claimed the lives of three youths near the “B” Division area in Asaba on November 24, 2025.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, and monitored by newsmen.

According to Edafe, preliminary investigations indicate that the traditional leader allegedly led a combined group of local vigilantes and suspected cult members to a disputed land parcel at Okwe community along the Asaba–Onitsha Road in an attempt to claim ownership of the property.
Edafe disclosed that some members of the group were “brazenly disguised” in Army camouflage during the operation, which he said was carried out without legal backing.
“The group proceeded to enforce an unauthorised quit notice without a court order,” the police spokesman noted, adding that the move was met with resistance, leading to a violent confrontation.
He further alleged that gunmen within the group opened fire “indiscriminately,” inflicting critical gunshot injuries on three youths, who were later confirmed dead while receiving treatment in hospital.
Reacting swiftly to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, ordered the deployment of tactical units, intelligence operatives, and specialised investigators to track down and arrest all persons linked to the killings.
Abaniwonda condemned the attack, describing it as “unprovoked, reckless, and a brazen display of lawlessness,” adding that the command would not tolerate acts of criminality “under any guise.”
He also appealed to residents of Onicha-Olona, Asaba, and neighbouring communities to provide credible information to security operatives to aid the ongoing manhunt.
The police commissioner stressed that the investigations and raid operations would continue “until every perpetrator, irrespective of title, influence, or backing, is apprehended and made to face the law.”
The statement also assured members of the public that “normalcy has been restored” in the area, adding that sustained surveillance and intelligence-led patrols remain underway to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
Edafe urged anyone with useful intelligence to report to the nearest police station, reiterating the command’s resolve to restore peace and ensure justice for the victims.
