The State to sustain the existing cordial relationship with the State Government, saying that the robust relationship between the State Government and organized labour has accounted for the The Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Peter Onwusanya has urged workers in giant strides which the State Government has recorded in all sectors.
The Speaker made the call at the May Day thanksgiving service held by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) as part of activities for Workers’ Day celebration at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Unity parish, provincial headquarters, Asaba.
While congratulating Delta workers on this year’s May Day celebration coming up on Thursday, May 1st, Hon. Onwusanya asked them to continue to demonstrate total commitment to duty and improve on their performances.
In his remarks, the State Head of Service, Sir Paul Evuarherhe who took the third lesson, said that Nigerian workers have been enjoying steady improvement in their condition of service over the years, adding that from a paltry N700 monthly salary some years ago, it has progressively improved to about N18, 000 minimum wage, which according to him, has improved their standard of living..
Evuarherhe explained that the training and re-training of workers, which the State Government has invested so much in, was to sharpen the skills of workers and make them well-grounded and more efficient.
The State chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Myke Arinze said that workers in Delta State have every reason to be thankful to God, considering the peaceful environment in which they operate, adding that the organized labour in the State will continue to protect the interest of workers at all times.
The officiating pastor, P. T. Oleyande had in his sermon noted that life and death are in the tongue and admonished Christians to use the creative power in them to impact positively on their environment and stop using negative words on their children and people around them.
