Diables Noirs beat rivals Club Athlétique Renaissance Aiglon (CARA) 2-0 on Thursday (14 August 2014) to win the 2014 edition of the Coupe du Congo in Sibiti.
First half goals from Ebengo Liema (1st minute) and Hardy Binguila (25th minute) was enough to hand Diables Noirs their first triumph in the Congolese version of the FA Cup since 2012.
The match, which climaxed Congo’s 54 Independence Anniversary celebrations, also coincided with the inauguration of a 7,000-seater stadium in Sibiti, a town situated in the southern part of the country.
By the feat, Diables Noirs have qualified to represent Congo in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
Quotes
Guillaume Ilunga (Coach, Diables Noirs)
“We came into the game to finish the job we started, by winning the trophy for the right to play in the CAF Confederation Cup next year. Today is a satisfying moment because in addition to the trophy, we have also qualified to play in Africa next season.”
Raoul Shungu (Coach, CARA)
“Diables Noirs deserved to win. We were not strong enough. Once we conceded the first goal, my players were lost. We had problems in defence, left spaces which the opponents capitalized to their advantage.”
