Disney Plus now officially has more than 100 million subscribers. The video streaming service has reached this figure in just less than a year and a half after its launch.
Company executives made the announcement during Disney’s annual shareholder’s meeting. As of February 2021 when it last revealed the number of its subscribers during its first-quarter earnings; the company announced that, as of 2nd January 2021, it had just over 94 million subscribers.

The enormous success of Disney Plus … has inspired us to be even more ambitious, and to significantly increase our investment in the development of high-quality content. In fact, we set a target of [more than] 100 new titles per year, and this includes Disney Animation, Disney Live-Action, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic,” CEO Bob Chapek said in a press release.Chapek is focused on continuing to grow Disney’s numbers. He says that Disney’s “direct-to-consumer business is the company’s top priority, and our robust pipeline of content will continue to fuel its growth”.
The company’s executives had originally predicted that Disney Plus get between 60 and 90 million subscribers by 2024. Now it has obliterated that goal and has now new targets for the business. They are targeting between 300 and 350 million subscribers across all of its streaming platforms (Disney Plus, Hulu, ESPN Plus, Star Plus, HotStar) by 2024.
