Netherlands midfielder, Georginio Wijnaldum has come out to play down his recent touchline confrontation with coach Frank de Boer. He recently revealed that their argument was only as a result of his disappointment, so it shouldn’t be exaggerated.
According to him, he really wanted to keep playing because he felt he could score more goals for his country, but the coach thought taking him off was the best decision, so he respects that.
He added that it is very good for all the players in the squad to get involved in such qualifiers as it helps with unity in the camp.
His words, “I was a bit disappointed, but we shouldn’t make it bigger than it is,”
“I really wanted to stay on, because I had fun on the field and felt that I could score another goal, but the coach and I have already talked about it. This is nothing bad.”
“On the one hand I am very disappointed, on the other hand it is good for the group feeling when other guys also play.”
De Boer added, “Memphis wanted to score and he was close a few times. I think he was more concerned with that than with the switch,”
“Gini has played so much, I told him to understand that we are 24 men. They also need to get the feeling that they belong.”
