Ebonyi State has received a significant delivery of medical equipment valued in billions of naira, aimed at equipping 13 general hospitals and other health facilities across the state.
The equipment, which includes delivery beds, operating beds, and various specialized beds, marks the fourth tranche of medical resources procured under Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration.
During an inspection of the equipment, housed in a central warehouse, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma, emphasized that the acquisition addresses longstanding challenges within Ebonyi’s healthcare system.

He highlighted the government’s efforts in overcoming equipment shortages as a major milestone in enhancing healthcare delivery.
However, he acknowledged that persistent power issues remain a challenge for health facilities, which the state is also committed to resolving.
“We are taking delivery of the fourth tranche of medical equipment procured by the Ebonyi State government. This includes 26 containers filled with essential hospital consumables,” Dr. Ekuma said.
“While this addresses a significant equipment gap, we are tackling the issue of erratic power supply by planning an alternative solar power system for hospitals to ensure continuous service.”
Dr. Ekuma also noted future plans to digitalize the state’s hospitals, introducing an electronic medical records system that will allow seamless communication between facilities, while specialized healthcare services will be integrated into general hospitals.
Additional equipment, including MRI and CT scanners, is expected to arrive soon.
In addition, Commissioner for Information and State Orientation Jude Okpor underscored the administration’s commitment to transforming the health sector, calling on residents to protect the new facilities.
He lauded Governor Nwifuru’s proactive approach to health sector reform and fulfillment of his “People’s Charter of Needs” manifesto through strategic investments and recruitment of medical personnel.
“The dedication of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, to provide essential health facilities of world-class standards is evident,” said Okpor.
“These efforts are setting a new benchmark for health services in Ebonyi, ensuring residents receive quality healthcare.”
