Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has congratulated Olumide Akpata on his emergence as the Labour Party (LP) candidate for the Edo State Governorship Election scheduled for September 21, 2024.
Akpata, a former National President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), emerged victorious in the LP governorship primary election held on Friday, February 23, after scoring 316 votes to defeat other aspirants.
The election was conducted in a credible and transparent manner, with the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu, serving as the chairman of the election committee and declaring Akpata the winner.

Governor Otti commended the LP Governorship Primary Election Committee for organizing a peaceful election and praised his Deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, for his diligent performance as the Returning Officer.
In a statement issued from his office in Umuahia, Governor Otti expressed satisfaction that the primary election was conducted peacefully and has been widely regarded as free, fair, and credible by the majority of the participating aspirants.
This stands in contrast to reports from other political parties.
Describing the process as aligned with the LP’s philosophy of equity, fairness, and justice, Governor Otti also congratulated the other aspirants for their sportsmanship and urged them to support Akpata in his quest to win the Edo State governorship for the Labour Party.

Governor Otti also commended the leadership of the LP at both state and national levels for their efforts in ensuring a peaceful election process.
