The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Benin City, on Saturday admitted more documents submitted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.
InfoStride News reports that the PDP and Ighodalo are challenging the declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, as the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The tribunal had earlier, on Friday, January 17, 2025, provisionally admitted 1,004 documents from the PDP and Ighodalo as exhibits.

At the continuation of the hearing over the weekend, the petitioners, through their counsel, Ken Mozia (SAN), tendered additional documentary evidence to support their case. These included:
- 55 Certified True Copies (CTC) of polling unit voter registers used during the election.
- 56 accreditation figures extracted from INEC’s Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
- 72 CTCs of BVAS accreditation figures.
- 75 CTCs of INEC Results Viewing Portal (IREV) containing Form EC8A.
- 70 CTCs of INEC polling unit booklets with Form EC25B.
Further submissions included 66 copies of polling unit voter registers, 125 copies of Form EC8A from IREV, 101 copies of Form EC8A, CTCs of BVAS polling unit reports, and certificates of compliance issued by INEC.
The petitioners also tendered BVAS machine serial numbers used in 133 polling units, alongside a corresponding certificate of compliance.
“My Lords, we wish to tender CTC of the BVAS machine serial numbers deployed to 133 polling units and the Certificate of Compliance,” Mozia stated.
However, counsel to the respondents, Abdullahi Aliyu (SAN), Offiong Offiong (SAN), and Chief Ferdinand Orbih (SAN), raised objections to the admissibility of the documents but reserved their arguments for the final written addresses.
Notably, INEC’s counsel, Aliyu, did not object to the certificate of compliance for the BVAS machines but the counsel for the APC and Governor Okpebholo did.
InfoStride News reports that the PDP and Dr. Ighodalo are urging the tribunal to declare them as the rightful winners of the election, arguing that they secured the highest number of valid votes cast.
