The Edo State chapters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have engaged in a war of words following allegations of an attack on the PDP secretariat in Benin City.
On Thursday, the PDP accused the APC of orchestrating the invasion of its secretariat. Chris Nehikhare, the Publicity Secretary of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, alleged in a statement that a relative of the APC state youth leader led thugs to vandalize the building.
According to Nehikhare, the attackers destroyed doors, windows, and office equipment and made away with electronics, computers, and other valuables worth millions of naira.

He further claimed that the attack was a deliberate attempt to intimidate the PDP and thwart its legal efforts to reclaim its “stolen mandate” from the September 21 governorship election.
“It is quite disappointing and unfortunate that the APC mobilized thugs to attack our party secretariat in desperation to frustrate and halt our efforts to reclaim the mandate duly given to us by Edo people,” Nehikhare stated.
He called on security agencies to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice, while urging party members to remain calm and resolute in the face of provocation.
In response, APC Publicity Secretary Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie dismissed the allegations as baseless and accused the PDP of attempting to involve the APC in its internal crisis.
“It is absurd to label those who allegedly attacked the PDP office as APC thugs. Did the attackers wear APC uniforms or carry APC paraphernalia?” Uwadiae-Igbinigie questioned.
He added that the APC was focused on governance and delivering projects that the PDP failed to implement during its tenure.
“The PDP should resolve its internal issues instead of dragging the APC into its mess. We remain committed to building a better Edo State and have no interest in their baseless allegations,” he said.
Both parties have maintained their positions, with the PDP urging legal action and the APC denying any involvement in the alleged attack.
