The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man, KC Okojie Prince, for the alleged theft of two electricity transformers and two drums of 2.5mm flex cable wires.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, Nemi Edwin-Iwo, while parading the suspects alongside five others for various crimes at the Police headquarters in Benin City on Friday.
According to the police, Okojie was involved in stealing a 300kva transformer, a 100kva transformer, and two drums of 2.5mm flex cable wire from a property located at No. 8 Idugboe Estate, off Sapele Road, Benin City, on August 11, 2024.
The Commissioner also confirmed the arrest of 40-year-old Aruka Uche, who allegedly received the stolen items.
Uche was apprehended during a police operation at No. 5 Eben Street, off Akpakpava, Benin City, where the stolen transformers and cables were recovered.
Edwin-Iwo noted that an accomplice, simply identified as Ojo, is still at large, but efforts are being made to apprehend him.
He explained that the suspects deceitfully gained access to the property and made away with the electrical equipment.
“A diligent investigation by operatives of the X-Squad Benin-City led to the arrest of the culprit, KC Okojie Prince, who confessed to the crime and identified Ojo as his partner,” the Police Commissioner said.
The suspects are currently in police custody, and further investigations are ongoing to bring all involved to justice.
