Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), urged the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, to ensure swift responses to inquiries referred to it by the EFCC and other Nigerians.
Addressing the issue during a meeting with the Registrar-General of CAC, Hussani Ishaq Magaji, SAN, who led his management team on a courtesy visit to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, Olukoyede stressed the importance of timely responses, considering the sensitive and critical roles both agencies play for the Nigerian populace. He expressed gratitude for the access provided by CAC to information and resources but called for improved synergy and expedited responses to EFCC’s requests, citing the pervasive corruption in Nigeria as a hindrance to development. Olukoyede emphasised that tackling corruption, including investigation and prosecution, should be a priority for all Nigerians.
Additionally, Olukoyede proposed the formation of a small joint task force between the EFCC and CAC to enhance collaboration and access to information, thereby bolstering investigative efforts.

In response, Magaji affirmed CAC’s commitment to collaboration, describing EFCC and CAC as strategic partners in the fight against corruption. He revealed that CAC, under his leadership, has established a dedicated unit to address EFCC’s inquiries, even amidst transitioning from manual to automated processes.
Magaji echoed the call for stronger collaboration between the two commissions, recognising the importance of joint efforts in fulfilling their mandates effectively.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to cooperation and exploring avenues to deepen collaboration, underscoring their shared goal of combating corruption and promoting transparency in Nigeria.
