The Egba Descendant Union (EDU) has condemned in strong terms the demolition of Ijebu Igbo Primary Health Care Centre in Ijebu North LGA, on the orders of the state Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
A statement issued by its Director, Media and Publicity, Rev. Simon Olaleye, described the demolition exercise as atrocious and manifestly directionless effort coming at a time when the community lack a modern primary health centre that can offer quality health services to the masses at affordable rate.
“We are at a loss as to why the governor should take this swift action by ordering the demolition of the Ijebu Igbo primary health centre on some reportedly outrageous excuse of not been informed.
“Does it mean Ogun State is harbouring a heartless chief executive whose interest is mainly to install a successor in 2019 and not a chief executive that has the interest of the masses at heart?”
“It is only a desensitized chief executive that behaves in this barbaric manner in this modern age and we are worried that this blunder is coming from our own son, Governor Ibikunle Amosun. We are disappointed that he is playing politics with the lives of numerous indigent patients that are meant to benefit from the project.
“With the rate at which the governor is going, we only hope that the properties of his perceived political opponents are secured since we heard on good authority that the governor is bent on demolishing properties of potentials Ogun 2019 gubernatorial Aspirants.
The group lamented that since Amosun assumed office as governor, “he has been jumping from one error of judgment to the other indicative of an amateur chief executive not prepared or equipped for serious business of governance that the state urgently deserves at the moment,” he said.
According to Olaleye, had the state governor bothered to consult widely, he would have been told that his excuse for demolishing the primary health centre to prevent his perceived political enemies from reaching out to the masses fall in the face of sound judgment because Ijebu Igbo town is in need of a modern and well equipped primary health care centre and Senator Buruji Kashamu should be commended for embarking on such project.
