An aspirant in the Ekiti State gubernatorial election in 2022 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olusegun Oni has lamented the state of insecurity in Ekiti, while challenging the governor, Kayode Fayemi, on people’s safety.
Oni stated that Ekiti under the current dispensation has become a place of fear and the people can no longer move freely.
He said: “Those in diaspora are afraid of coming to the state as there are various forms of atrocity, stealing, robbery, kidnapping, banditry, rape and so on.
“ Safety and security don’t just happen, they are the result of our collective, consensus and public investment. We owe our children, who are the most vulnerable citizens in our society, a life free of violence and fear.”
He urged Governor Fayemi to use the security vote of the government to secure life and property of the people, saying that no nation attains its full potential without making adequate provision for the security of persons and properties.
“The well-being of our people should be the number one priority of any serious government.”
Meanwhile, a chieftain of PDP in Ekiti State, Lanre Aregbesola, has said his party will defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress come 2022 governorship election.
Aregbesola, who spoke during the Harvest Thanksgiving service at Rev Edward Johns Methodist Church cathedral Ifaki Ekiti, said Ekiti remains a PDP state.
He said, “I want to assure you that I remain committed to the ideas of my people. We will take over Ekiti again. It is legitimate. I thank all our people who have remained steadfast. Hopefully, we will bounce back.”
Aregbesola who expressed optimism that Oni would be victorious at the governorship primary that is coming up in January, next year urged delegates to vote for Oni.
