The new Head of Service of Ekiti State, Dr. Gbenga Faseluka has assured that the State Civil Service will be repositioned to become a reference point in Nigeria.
Faseluka gave the assurance in Ado Ekiti on Monday during his inauguration as the new Head of Service of the State by the State Governor, Dr Ayodele Fayose that the State workforce under his leadership would be transformed appropriately to enable it discharge its duties to the society.
The new Head of Service who disclosed that his vision as the head of the State’s workforce was to make the engine room of government the first among equals in Nigeria explained that there have been a lot of abnormalities in the service which must be addressed in order to make it deliver the goods of democracy to the people whom it was established to serve.
While noting that the Civil Service has always been accused of being nepotic, corrupt, wasteful, slow to change and discourteous to the public whom it is to serve, Dr Faseluka in a dramatic manner gave a red card to politics and corruption in the civil service; stating that “corruption and other forms of sharp practices must be decisively dealt with if and when detected in the system”.
The Head of Service who frowned on active participation in partisan politics by civil servants urged such people to quit the service and join politics rather than adulterate the civil service.
“The traditional characteristics of the civil service i.e the ideals of neutrality, anonymity and permanence must not be compromised. The service must continue to provide the bridge of continuity. The service should be insulated from politics. There must be strict observance of the rules and regulations of the Public Service while deviation and breaches must attract appropriate sanctions”, he said.
Dr. Faseluka promised that the new administration would ensure training and re-training of workers especially in Information and Communication Technology as well as other professional duties to ensure efficiency of the workers.
He added that the service under his leadership would not shirk in advising and implementing government’s policies and programmes.
