Ekiti State Government has again expressed her determination at ensuring increased agriculture production for food security for local consumption and for export.
The Secretary to the State Government Dr. Modupe Alade made this known while speaking to journalist on the 2015 budget proposal of Governor Ayodele Fayose’s administration.
Dr. Alade stated that the government is set at focusing on agricultural production which is the main stay of Ekiti economy and also a focal position in the six point agenda of Government to an enviable position that Ekiti will produce more than enough food for its economic growth and contribute greatly to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Nigeria in general.
She stated that the government is set to expand irrigation farming capacity, empower Ekiti youths that are keenly interested in commercial agriculture, revamp cocoa plantation, revive the integrated poultry schemes and construct rural farm roads across the state.
The Secretary to the State Government called on farmers who had once failed on the job for lack of support from government to return to land as Government would do a lot to support farmers this time around.
The State scribe also called on able bodied youths to create more interest in agriculture as the government would embark on massive commercial agriculture which would benefit more for individuals than white collar jobs and increase the IGR of Ekiti as a whole.
