In a recent interview with TVC Entertainment, AGN President Emeka Ike spoke on quality of films in Nollywood.
Making reference to Kunle Afolayan, Ike said that there is nothing special about making a ‘great movie’ with 200 million naira.
“I don’t respond to such. He’s irrelevant,” Afolayan said when asked for an official statement.
In the interview with TVC, Emeka Ike stated that the “October 1” filmmaker made a great movie because he received N200M.
“Don’t tell me Kunle Afolayan is making a fantastic movie,” he said. “You gave him 200 million Naira for crying out loud. The entire industry has not even used 200 million before now to make movies for God’s sake now. So if you give a dunce that money, he can get the best producer. So it’s not a fantastic thing, you are not making me feel oppressed.”
Afolayan is a respected filmmaker popular for movies like “October 1,” Phone Swap,” “Figurine” among others.
His most recent movie “The CEO,” features Hilda Dokubo, Kemi Lala Akindoju, Angelique Kidjo, Wole Ojo among others, and premiered 30,000 feet into the air on June 1, 2016.
On April 4, 2016, Emeka Ike was announced as the interim president of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), pending its elections in 2018.
