Emir Of Kano: NSCIA Urges Politicians To Stop Making Infuriating Comments

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar III, has asked politicians to stay away from the Kano Emirate tussle.

This follows NSCIA’s rapprochement with the Presidency to allow the choice of Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi by the kingmakers as new Emir of Kano, to stay.

The emergence of Sanusi as the traditional ruler of Kano Emirate was seen as a proxy battle between the state Governor, Engr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and the All Progressives Congress, APC, on one hand, and President Goodluck Jonathan and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on the other.

But the NSCIA, in a statement through its Secretary-General, Prof. Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, asked politicians to stop making infuriating comments on the appointment of the Emir.

It would be recalled that an associate and childhood friend of the new Emir, former Minister of FCT, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, had taunted the Presidency and PDP as news emerged on Sunday that Sanusi has been appointed successor to the late Ado Bayero.

He tweeted: “SLS (Sanusi Lamido Sanusi) is the Emir of Kano. Jonathanians can go jump into the lagoon”.

The statement said: “The NSCIA appeals to politicians across the parties to stop making derisive and infuriating comments on the appointment of the new Emir of Kano.

“The Emirship is both traditional and religious. The council therefore appeals to all politicians to leave the matter for traditional and religious institutions to see to the smooth completion of the transition in Kano.

“The council, under the leadership of His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, who is the President -General of the NSCIA, is conscious of its responsibilities and it us doing everything possible to ensure the revered throne is not politicized and there is no rancour among the people of Kano”.
