Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has presented a substantial N521.6 billion 2024 Appropriation Bill to the House of Assembly for scrutiny.
The budget, aptly named the ‘Budget of Disruptive Economic Growth,’ was introduced on Tuesday at the Assembly Legislative Complex in Enugu.
Governor Mbah emphasized that the proposed budget represents a remarkable 132% increase compared to the revised 2023 budget, which stood at approximately N210 billion.

The comprehensive plan allocates N107.2 billion for recurrent expenditure, while a substantial N414.3 billion is earmarked for capital expenditure.
Breaking down the recurrent spending, Mbah outlined key components, including an opening balance of N11 billion, Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) of N252 billion, statutory revenue of N60 billion, excess crude and other sources contributing N16 billion, and VAT totaling N44 billion.
The governor revealed that a significant portion of the budget, 33%, would be dedicated to the education sector.
He highlighted ongoing efforts, stating that the government has initiated the construction of 260 ultra-modern smart schools across all political wards in the state.
“These schools are unique not only in the fact that they would house the entire basic school classes from Crèche to JS3 but also in terms of the significant changes,” Governor Mbah emphasized.
Addressing healthcare, Mbah disclosed a budget allocation of $22.8 billion to enhance healthcare facilities, promote access to quality healthcare services, and fortify responses to health emergencies.
The overarching goal is to ensure every citizen has access to reliable and efficient healthcare services.
