Obiageli Ezekwesili, a former minister of education, praised the European Union Election Observation Mission and said it did not compromise election credibility.
In his analysis of the election report for 2023, Ezekwesili claimed that it “surprisingly restored a measure of confidence in election monitoring around the world by not mincing words at all.”
The former Minister said on Tuesday via her verified Twitter account that, in contrast to its report on Nigeria, Observer Mission Reports were starting to become formulaic and appeared to compromise electoral credibility.

The study, she continued, “diverged from the global trend and restored confidence in Election Observation.”
By being completely blunt in their European Union Election Observation Mission NIGERIA 2023 Final Report, the @euinNigeria surprisingly restored some confidence in election monitoring around the world, the author said.
“The @UN’s position on election observation is as follows:
Why watch an election?
“Elections can be made more effective by using election observation. Observers contribute to increasing public trust in the integrity of electoral processes.
“Observation can aid in advancing and defending the civil and political rights of election participants. Even while an election process is still in progress, it may result in the repair of mistakes or subpar procedures. It can prevent fraud and manipulation or, if it does, reveal these issues.
“When observers can provide accurate information, it increases confidence in the democratic system and strengthens the legitimacy of the governments that are formed as a result of elections.
“Homegrown organizations watching elections promote civic engagement in the political system. Following elections, national law and practice may change and improve as a result of reports and suggestions made by observer groups.
“Those who keep up with international trends in election monitoring are aware that Observer Mission Reports started to resemble generic templates that appeared to compromise electoral credibility.
“I heartily endorse the EU Report… It made no concessions about electoral legitimacy.
It broke from the general pattern and gave voters new hope in election observation.
